These delicately textured and woven baskets were made by groups of women in intimate communities across rural Rwanda where sisal fibers are wound stitch by stitch around a small sweetgrass bundle.
The ingenious designs and excellent work of an experienced weaver are never the result of luck. On the contrary, Rwandan women owe their weaving skills to the women before them who passed on the knowledge from generation to generation - from mother to daughter, from big to small.
