The story
A chain of cotton is spun by hand before being placed on a manual loom. The dyeing and weaving technique used is very close to that of Ikat: the design is created by dyeing the fibres first, at precise intervals, so that it is the plaiting that brings it out as the craftsman weaves each strand of madur, one-by-one, to form the weft. A delicate alignment of plant fibres, in which natural colour and indigo dye blend and intermingle to form these traditional patterns and produce the silky feel.
