Old chinese shuttles 'reed'

This item was used in the weaving process. Weaving is a very ancient technique in which horizontal and vertical groups of threads can be braided into textiles. The shuttle is hereby used to stabbing the weft yarn through the gap between the warp threads. These threads are being held together by a so called ‘reed’. Originally these were made by reed, nowadays they are made by metal but the name ‘reed’ was kept.

Weaving in China is an important craft, and the technology keeps evolving. We are pleased that we give this very old ‘reed’ from South-China a second life. These beauties give your interior a very special touch!
