These key rings are made by women from Khayelitsha, one of South Africa's biggest townships. Collaborating with them is the best way to give something back to the community and especially to these ladies.
The key rings go through numerous steps before they are ready to travel: first they are cut, then the women polish the leather where needed and make it wet to shape it. At the end they stitch the little pieces of leather by hand, burn all the threads and attach a rind and a tag on each little elephant.
There is a lot of work involved and each little animal is unique and completely handcrafted.
