This stylish bottle holder is hand-woven in small workshops in Morocco. The raffia comes from the raffia palm that occurs mainly in Africa. The veins are dried, cut into narrow strips and twisted before being interwoven. Raffia was introduced in Morocco by Spanish prisoners who braided raffia on a bases of rubber soles to get themselves airy shoes. The technique is now mainly used by women to make all kinds of utensils and decorative pieces.
