The story

These unique baskets are from the Amazon region. They are made by the indigenous Nukak tribe, who are part of the Maku tribe.

Since time immemorial, the Nukak-Maku lead a life like in the Stone Age. Roaming through the hundreds of kilometers of pristine jungle in the Amazon, they live off hunting monkeys and collecting fruit. They belong to one of the last nomadic tribes in Colombia and their daily struggle is to preserve their culture, way of life and habitat. The material used to make these baskets is called the Yaré liana. They use the baskets to transport firewood, food and medicinal plants.
