The story

This stool was made in Southeast Ethiopia by people of the Gurage tribe. Stools and small portable chairs are commonly used in African societies. Besides being daily utensils, they often represent the prestige and social status of its owner. This backed stool was probably used by newly installed chiefs or in councils of elders.

Carved from one piece of wood and beautifully shaped by age and exposure, this piece is a unique item.
