The story

Bogolan, known as 'mudcloth', means literally: cloth colored with mud. It's an important item in the Malian culture.

The cotton fabric is painted on a traditional way with mud out of the Niger river and other natural pigments (plants, tree bark, ..) The pieces cotton are attached to each other and form a beautiful and unique piece.

A whole family works on a bogolan: The grandmother spins the cotton, the women weave the fabric and the men dye. Every family has its own patterns.
