The story

Boucherouite carpets were originally made and used by the poorer Berber population who could not afford raw materials like wool. With recycled leftovers of old clothing and rags they weaved beautiful carpet.

The word Boucherouite comes from the Arabic ‘bu sherwit’, meaning “a piece torn from pre-used clothing”.

Today Berber women around the Atlas Mountains in Morocco continue the tradition and make carpets in beautiful colours and eccentric patterns. The patterns are usually asymmetrical and totally abstract.

Every rug is unique and a true work of art on the floor or on the wall.
